There are numerous critical organs and vessels in the chest including the heart, lungs, and great vessels. The great vessels carry a large amount of blood supply and if injured due to chest trauma can result in major bleeding these are: The aorta, superior vena cava, inferior vena cava, pulmonary arteries, pulmonary veins. We also are concerned about rib fractures (broken ribs) clavicle fractures and with a high enough mechanism of action even a fractured sternum. We will discuss both closed and open chest injuries that you will encounter as an EMS professional. I hope this 30 minute lesson allows you to nail your trauma quiz in EMT/Paramedic class! Be great, Evan, The Paramedic Coach #trauma #emt #paramedic
