Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Create in-cell bar chart using REPT function. Welcome back to MrExcel! In this episode, we're going to dive into Excel Charts Chapter 9 and learn how to create a chart without actually using a chart. That's right, we're going old school with the REPT function. You may be familiar with the Data Bar concept introduced in Excel 2007, but we're going to take it a step further and create a visual representation of our data using the REPT function. This function repeats a certain text a specified number of times, and we're going to use it to create a bar chart. To start, we'll use the pipe character (|) and the number we want to repeat, in this case 56. Copy that formula down and voila, we have a simple bar chart! This works well for smaller numbers, but what if we have larger numbers? In that case, we can use the REPT function in combination with the division operator to scale down the numbers and create the correct size bar chart. But why stop there? You can also get creative with different fonts, such as Webdings or Wingdings, to create thicker bars and give your chart a unique look. The possibilities are endless with this simple yet powerful function. So there you have it, a chart without using a chart.
