It’s perhaps the most audacious urban infrastructure project conceived in independent India: to build an entire state capital, a modern metropolis that would rival the world’s finest cities, from the ground up. In 2016 the government of Andhra Pradesh hosted a two month competition for designing the Government Complex at Amaravati amongst three international firms - Vastu Shilpa Consultant , Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Maki & associates. An international jury was appointed to evaluate the submissions and applauded the submissions from all three firms. (First presentation) Vasthu Shilpa Consultants(India) (Second presentation 4 minutes in) Roger Stirk Harbour and partners (UK) (Third presentation 7:30 minutes in) Maki and Associates (Japan) Terra Viridis was honoured to have worked with the Iconic architect Lord Richard Rodgers (www.rsh-p.com) and Mr. Klaus Bode of Chapman BDSP - London (www.chapmanbdsp.com) as their local sustainability consultants for the design of the Amaravati government complex. The government appointed Foster + Partners and Architect Hafeez Contractor to take forward the design in 2017. Terra Viridis was again appointed the sustainability consultants for the governmental complex. (All images and videos courtesy of Amaravati Governmental Complex Concept Design Competition.)
