Feria V In coena Domini - Maundy Thursday The sacrifice announced the previous days is fulfilled today. We attend the Last Supper of Jesus in the company of his closest friends, the apostles. During the supper, they will receive the greatest sign of humility and charity from their Master: the washing of their feet. The divine is exercised again in an act of total surrender: the God-Man, not only stoops to wash the feet of his Disciples but even annihilates Himself to become the species of bread and wine, the establishment of the Eucharist, supreme incarnation of charity. “Ubi caritas est vera, Deus ibi est” - where true charity is, there God is. Ubi caritas Where there is true charity, there God is. The love of Christ has gathered us into one. Let us exult, and in Him be joyful. Let us fear and let us love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love each other (and Him). Where there is true charity, there God is. Therefore, whensoever we are gathered as one: Lest we in mind be divided, let us beware. Let cease malicious quarrels, let strife give way. And in the midst of us be Christ our God. Where there is true charity, there God is. Together also with the blessed may we see, Gloriously, Thy countenance, O Christ our God: A joy which is immense, and also approved: Through infinite ages of ages. Amen.
