IOM: 1,000 people drowned trying to reach the EU in 2018

More than 1,000 people have drowned making the perilous trip across the Mediterranean from Libya to Europe this year. The International Organisation for Migration says the increase in the past few days has been in anticipation of the EU crackdown on refugees and asylum seekers.
