Soldier checks car 14, Wide of queue STORYLINE: Security remained tight in the Jerusalem area for the second Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as tens of thousands of worshippers made their way to the Temple Mount. Police have stepped up surveillance on the Temple Mount in recent weeks. The area has been the scene of violence in the past. Israel captured it when it overran Arab east Jerusalem in the 1967 war, and recognising its sensitivity, left it under the administration of the Islamic Trust, with Israeli police in overall charge of security. But to devout Jews, the site of Jerusalem's great Jewish temple remains a powerful symbol. Sharon's visit there in 2000, before he was prime minister, set off the violence that presaged the present intifadeh, or uprising.
