(22 Aug 2014) Another round of peace talks between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) leftist rebel group and the Colombian government ended on Friday, with no agreement on a bilateral ceasefire. A ceasefire has been a point of contention since the talks began in late 2013. The FARC has asked for one, but the government has refused. At a news conference in Cuba's capital Havana on Friday, Colombian government lead negotiator Humberto de la Calle said there would be no ceasefire. Recently there appeared to be some momentum towards a possible halt to the fighting, with the participation of a victims' delegation and the presence of a technical group from the Colombian military, which is supposed to offer a framework for a possible pause in the hostilities.
