SUPERMAN 2 ( Theatrical Version ) - Movie Look Back Review Welcome back to another video here on Toned In Entertainment. Recently I looked back at one of the first comic book movies I ever recalled seeing and that was the Superman Movie released back in 1978 and I have to admit I still really enjoy it even till this day. If you missed my review you can check it out right here Now there were a total of four movies in this series so it's time to look at the second installment in the series and that's Superman 2 released in 1980. The Movie stars Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent and Superman Gene Hackman as Lex Luther Margot Kidder as Lois Lane Terrance Stamp as General Zod Sarah Douglas as Ursa Jack O'Halloran as Non And the Theatrical version that I'm reviewing was directed by Richard Lester The Premise Lex Luther is locked up. And General Zod and his two cronies are still trapped spinning helplessly in the phantom zone. And Clark is still trying his best to have something more than friendship with Louis Lane. But what fun would a superhero movie be if there was peace on Earth. On Assignment To start off the movie there's a group of terrorists and they are about to set off a bomb on top of the Eiffel Tower. Being the best reporter at The Daily Planet, Louis is set on assignment to report on the chaos but she ends up finding good herself in quite the predicament. Save the day...for now Realizing that Louis is probably in over her head, Clark quickly transforms into the Man Of Steel to foil the terrorists evil plots. He flies the bomb out into space where it explodes, however this creates the opportunity for the three criminals from Krypton to head to Earth. Proof Is In The Pudding Being the crack investigator that Lois Lane is, she finally is able to make the connection that Superman and Clark Kent are the same person and when she can't get Clark to admit it she does some pretty bizarre things to prove it. Lover Not A Fighter Once it's finally confirmed to Louis that he is the same person, Clark deals with the dilemma that if he's going to be with Louis he's going to give up his super abilities so he can live a normal life. But Lex Luther and General Zon will throw a monkey wrench into those plans. No Direction. Now the first Superman movie was directed by Richard Donner, but there was some controversy during filming of this movie that led to new director Richard Lester taking over. And when watching this movie the other day, it really feels like a bit of a mess. Missing pieces The best way I can describe this movie is if you were given a puzzle , you had to complete it but you don't have all the pieces and you just make your own pieces to fit into the puzzle just so you can say it's complete. Do I Recommend Superman 2 Yes I can recommend it however if you loved the first movie and you're like me and want to watch all four movies in the series, however you have to lower your expectations. Superman 2 had so much potential with General Zod and his crew, teaming up with Lex Luther, but unfortunately it just doesn't live up to the potential. Where To Watch It. Final Thoughts It seems like some people either really enjoy this movie or they really hate it but I'm right in the middle and that's why On a scale of 1-10 I'm going to give SuperMan 2 a 6 out of 10 falling right above the average mark. There was some really fun stuff, but yet an abundance of plot holes that just leave you shaking your head. And it really is a shame that there was a change in direction, because I really do believe that Richard Donner had a vision that was to be carried out from the first movie, but unfortunately we don't get the complete package here.
