India and Russia are preparing for a major diplomatic moment as President Vladimir Putin is set to visit New Delhi early next month for the 23rd annual India–Russia summit. Ahead of the visit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held extensive talks in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on November 17. Both sides discussed key agreements and projects expected to be finalised soon, aiming to add more depth to their “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.” Jaishankar also reiterated India’s support for recent peace efforts in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, calling for an early cessation of hostilities and lasting stability. During the meeting, India and Russia exchanged views on major global developments, including the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East, and Afghanistan. Putin’s expected visit around December 5 is likely to produce significant outcomes that further strengthen strategic, economic, and security cooperation between the two nations. With 22 summits held so far, the India–Russia partnership remains a critical pillar of New Delhi’s foreign policy and a longstanding factor of stability in international relations.
