Larry Waters, A-1 Guaranteed Heating and Air Conditioning (Vallejo, CA) on Home Electrification of HVAC - to meet California's decarbonization goals, to reduce air pollution in cities, reduce cost to home owners. Larry has been in the HVAC business for 37+ years. His presentation is highly informed by field experience. Larry goes in depth about the electrification requirements in a home to be able to install heat pump hot water heaters. He explains that the industry is sales-driven, and gas water heaters are easier to install and therefore deliver a higher commission to the HVAC company. Couple this with uninformed sales people and consumers who don't know about heat pump water heaters and we have missed opportunities to electrify. Larry continues with case studies for difficult residential retrofits, including upgrades to building envelope, ducting and equipment. He also covers the economics to retrofit a house to reduce energy consumption and demand loading, in order to have an all-solar electric home.
