Readings for the day: Psalm1, 1Samuel 10 17-end. Luke 22 31-38 Prayer for the week: Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: graft in our hearts the love of your name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of your great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Today's reflection is given by Revd Amanda Johnson ------ Regular reading and thinking about scripture is one of the things that enhances our faith, and our understanding of what it means to be followers of Jesus Christ. St Mary Magdalene with St Martin Church is producing daily reflections on some passages from the Old and New Testament as a tool for you to use to help you in your own bible reading and prayer. These passages are drawn from the daily ‘lectionary’, or calendar of readings, for the Church of England; they are the set readings for a daily service of Holy Communion. Most of the time, they follow each other, but sometimes they don’t – that isn’t a mistake! Try to read the passages listed before reading the reflections, and then try to spend a few minutes in prayer, putting your needs before God, giving thanks for his goodness to us, saying sorry for the things we have done wrong, and asking him to fill you again with the Holy Spirit.. While you pray, try sitting quietly for a few minutes to listen for God. He speaks to us in a number of different ways: sometimes in a feeling, sometimes in pictures, sometimes in words, and sometimes just in a sense of peace. If you would like a prayer guide, try looking up Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer on the Church of England website, or downloading the ‘Daily Prayer’ app by the Church of England from the app store – just substituting the readings listed here for the ones you will find there. ---- Licenses:The photo in this video is 'Frühling auf der Mainau' (April 2014), by Joachim Kohler Bremen.
