Thursday Bible Life Today General Prophecy Haggai 9-2-2021

Haggai was the first of the post-exilic prophets, after the exiles returned from Babylon to the homeland of Southern Judah. They had been commissioned by Cyrus, the Persian King to rebuild the temple, but after having started it, they stopped because of opposition by their Samaritan neighbors. Haggai was used by God to speak to the civil and religious leaders and some of the people to tell them to get back to work rebuilding the temple. Haggai received 5 messages from God to give to the people, and they then obeyed and began rebuilding. In the messages, God told them that from that point forward He would be with them and bless them. Two times in this little book, God spoke about a future time when the Messiah would come and be with the people in the temple and thereby make the glory of the Millennial temple even greater than the glory of Solomon's temple that some of the people could remember.
