(21 Feb 2020) Florida lawmakers have three weeks left to wrap up their business and one target they're going after is the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence. That's the non-profit agency that's under scrutiny after for giving its president $7.5 million in compensation over three years. Right now the coalition is, by law, the sole agency that funnels government money to groups that help victims of domestic violence. The House will hold a hearing on the agency Monday and the Senate will take up a bill Wednesday that could strip the coalition of its unique status in state law. The full House will take up a bill that would require informed consent before pelvic exams could be performed on women who are under anesthesia. The bill sponsor says some medical hospitals have allowed pelvic exams as a teaching tool on unconscious women without their knowledge. This bill would ban that practice. And the House will take up a bill that will authorize state agencies to use drones to hunt the pythons that have gone wild in the Everglades. The drones would also be used to identify invasive plants that are killing native trees and vegetation. The bill also authorizes drones to help the state forestry service battle wildfires.
