Commencement day weather was sunny and humid … (temps reached 78 degrees F. by the 10 a.m. start of the ceremony) …there were 1,058 undergraduates in the Class of 2019…112 graduates received interdisciplinary bachelor’s degrees…they hailed from 44 states and 61 countries outside the U.S.… undergraduates majored in 99 different disciplines … there were 339 students who received Master’s Degrees and 47 who received doctoral degrees … for the seventh year, the commencement ceremony incorporated live video through two large-scale video boards on either side of the stage. … the ceremony began with an invocation from Rev. Lloyd Steffen, University Chaplain and professor of religion studies, and was followed by the national anthem, which was sung by Nadine E. Clopton ’19 … Mohammad Shahabsafa ’19G, delivered the Graduate Student Remarks, and remarks by undergraduates were delivered by Giovanni Zlaket ’19, senior class president, and Michael P. Mauriello ’19….Former LUAA President Jill E. Triani ’94 welcomed the new alumni … the ceremony officially concluded with the ringing of the bell by representatives of the classes of 1969 and 2019 ... the benediction was offered by Rabbi Steven P. Nathan, Endowed Director of Jewish Student Life and associate chaplain…the alma mater was led by Brian S. Logsdon ’19…. the Allentown Band, under the direction of conductor Ronald H. Demkee, delivered its 38th consecutive performance at Lehigh’s commencement ceremony. It is America's oldest civilian concert band, with its first documented performance on July 4, 1828.
