At a time when dengue, a mosquito-bome viral disease is already creating havoc in several parts of the country, scientists at the national institute of Virology in Pune have spotted a new genetic variant of the existing dengue virus in Tamil Nadu. ഡെങ്കിപ്പനി പരത്തുന്ന പുതിയ വൈറസ് ഇന്ത്യയില്. ഇന്ത്യയില് ആദ്യമായാണ് ഈ വൈറസിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത്. പൂനെ നാഷണല് ഇൻസ്റ്റിട്ട്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് വൈറോളജിയാണ് പുതിയ വൈറസിനെ കണ്ടെത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുള്ള പഠനങ്ങള് നടത്തിയത്. ഏഷ്യൻ ജനിതകഘടകങ്ങളെ ബാധിക്കുന്ന ഡെങ്കി വൈറസുകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള അന്വേഷണാത്മക പഠനത്തിൻറെ ഭാഗമായുള്ള ലേഖനമാണിത്. 2012ല് തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലും കേരളത്തിലും ഈ വൈറസിൻറെ ആക്രമണം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതായും ലേഖനത്തില് വിവരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര, ഡല്ഹി തുടങ്ങിയ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും സാമ്പിളുകള് പരിശോധിച്ച് പഠനം നടത്തി. പക്ഷേ കേരളത്തിലും തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലുമാണ് വൈറസിൻറെ സാന്നിധ്യം കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.
