Detailing the “jarring” moment Meghan first met Prince William’s wife, Meghan claims she was surprised at how formal Kate was remaining formal even in private setting. She added that she had greeted the Prince and Princess of Wales barefoot and in ripped jeans. “I was a hugger and have always been a hugger. I didn’t realize that that was really jarring for a lot of Brits,” Markle said, referencing her first meeting with Kate. “I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside, carried through on the inside.” Meghan also added that she expected the royals to behave differently than what they are like in public. “There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and you are like, ‘Oh, great. We can relax now.’ But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me,” Markle admitted. She also added that she hadn’t realised that she would have to courtesy when meeting the queen initially thinking it was a joke when Harry asked her whether she knew how to do it. The royal family is choosing not to comment on the contents of the documentary though no doubt there would be many moments they would disagree with.
