Defence spending is one of the “fastest” growing areas in the budget and grew “strongly” prior to the AUKUS agreement and defence strategic review boost, Treasurer Jim Chalmers says. “We expect defence spending in the budget to grow very strongly,” Mr Chalmers told Sky News Australia. “The numbers will be presented in the May budget if we can. “Already we’re spending two per cent of GDP - it’s one of the fastest growing areas of spending in the budget.”
