A doctor who treated Hollywood star Johnny Depp for addiction issues said that he witnessed no physical abuse between Depp and his ex-wife, actor Amber Heard, as the trial in Depp’s defamation case against Heard entered its second week. Depp alleges Heard defamed him when she penned a December 2018 opinion piece in the Washington Post about being a survivor of domestic abuse. Depp, 58, brought the case against Heard, 35, for $50 million in 2018. In a deposition recorded in February, 2021 and played in court on Monday (April 18), Dr. David Kipper, also said that Depp told him he had cut off his own fingertip, contradicting Depp’s claim that his ex-wife, Amber Heard caused the injury when she threw a vodka bottle at him. “I was present for that, that’s what he told the emergency room doctor,” Kipper said. The U.S. defamation case is the latest chapter in a long-running legal fight between the two Hollywood stars. A state court judge in Fairfax County, Virginia, is overseeing the trial, which is expected to last six weeks. Less than two years ago Depp lost a libel case against The Sun, a British tabloid that labeled him a “wife beater."
