Total War SHOGUN 2 Fall of the Samurai 1vs1: Shinsengumi Police Force vs Katana Kachi (MELEE COMBAT) Clan: Aizu vs Tosa Battle Difficulty: normal Shinsengumi Police Force have steep requirements, needing both a Master Dojo (third tier traditional recruitment building) as well as a Shinsengumi Headquarters (final tier propaganda building) to recruit. This effectively relegates their availability to the mid to late game. Shinsengumi Police Force are line infantry with unusually good melee statistics: they are nearly tied with Yari Kachi in terms of melee skill, who themselves are strong melee infantry when it comes to fighting other infantry. However, Shinsengumi Police Force are significantly worse than most other line infantry when it comes to fighting with their rifles, with poorer accuracy and reload skill as well as the inability to use firing drills. They are more expensive to train and maintain than standard line infantry or melee infantry, meaning that they only justify their cost if they consistently engage in battles where both their ranged and melee skills are put to use. In siege battles, where units often see both types of combat, Shinsengumi Police Force may be highly useful. Bolstering their melee capability is their Banzai ability, temporarily giving them increased charge bonus and unbreakable morale. Despite their better melee skills, Shinsengumi Police Force are still vulnerable to cavalry, particularly if charged in the sides or rear. Katana Kachi are specialized, anti-infantry melee infantry. Their melee attack rating surpasses that of the best guard infantry, and their cost is not too high. If they can reach their targets without too many casualties, they acquit themselves well against nearly any infantry. However, they have many weaknesses: they have only middling defense stats in melee, they're vulnerable to cavalry due to their lack of an anti-cavalry bonus, and they lack any form of ranged attacks. Like other melee troops, they do best in hilly or forested terrain, exposing themselves to as little gunfire as possible before they can inflict their melee damage. Due to their high melee attack, Katana Kachi excel at defending forts against armies that don't have artillery. However, they suffer in other battlefield settings, particularly open plains with little cover. Katana Kachi are the only sword-wielding troops available to Imperial and independent factions. Factions with their allegiance to the Shogunate can train shogitai in addition to katana kachi. Compared to shogitai, katana kachi have poorer melee attack, charge bonus, and melee statistics and can't use "Banzai", but have better armor and are cheaper. In practice, as armor mostly protects against arrows (which are in turn rare in Fall of the Samurai) and as "Banzai" is highly useful, shogitai are superior to katana kachi. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ #TotalWar1vs1 #TotalWar #Shogun2
