Pick red burdens were possible but generally choose what perk complements your playstyle. To maximise echoes in the lower realms, when choosing what door to enter, go for doors with the question mark first, echoes door second, and the others based on preference (I prefer runic doors when no echo or question mark door is present). Don't get too attached to the path weapon. "I like the Axe" as you can clearly see (LOL), but when needed I switch it up with the other two. Runic rotation is your friend when switching weapons. Be strategic about how you approach enemies. The enemy you're targeting gets more aggro when it's close to dying so watch out for suprise attacks. Watch your flank as well, from projectiles and similar. In terms of build pick the glyphs that suit your playstyle. I unlocked Deep Freeze, arguably the most powerful Axe perk, but only used it like three times because it takes too much time to build up without the Realm Shift relic, so I adjusted and used it only when it was safe to (mostly, because I got hit once while trying to use it). In essence, you need to be quick on your feet and adaptable. I'm aware it takes the Blades (or Spear) to get past 115k echoes but I don't like them as much as I like the Axe. Having fun with the Axe is my own reward.
