Wednesday, January 7, 2026 Mt 4:12-17, 23-25 - From the Gospel according to Matthew ... When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles! The people who lived in darkness have seen a great light, and on those who lived in the region and shadow of death, a light has dawned." From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. His fame spread throughout all Syria, and people brought to him all the sick who were tormented by various diseases and pains, those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them. Great crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan. The Word of the Lord
