SAA fends off Al-Qaeda assault on gov’t stronghold in rural Hama: video Overnight, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) tried to infiltrate the predominately Alawite town of Ma’an by sneaking into army outposts in its eastern countryside. However, entrenched units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) responded with machine-gun fire, effectively neutralizing the hit-and-run attack before it did any damage.
