How North Korea is finally making escape impossible

North Korea is currently the only country in the world where it is illegal for citizens to leave the country without first obtaining permission from the government. The North Korean government considers even the attempt to do so to be high treason, and anyone caught doing so faces long prison sentences in the notorious North Korean labor camps. Many have even found themselves facing a firing squad after failing to escape the strictly regulated country. Nevertheless, people continue to try to escape, and a few even manage to cross the border and thus leave the horrors of this autocratic country behind them. This forced the North Korean government to tighten border controls and take stricter measures, primarily to keep its own citizens in the country.
