Basanti Polao || Mishti Polao || Traditional Bengali Sweet Polao || Noboborsho Special Recipe Basanti Polao or Mishti Polao is a traditional Bengali dish that is prepared during festivals and any special occasions like Noboborsho, Durga Puja etc. Basanti Polao is named so because of its bright yellow colour (Basanti means 'Yellow' colour), flavoured with ghee and whole spices which develops a beautiful aroma in the dish. This Polao is also known as Mishti Polao as it tastes sweeter and Holud Polao (because of its colour) as well. It is made with special grained aromatic rice - "Gobindobhog" which is cultivated mostly in West Bengal in India. It is short-grain, white, aromatic, sticky rice. It can be served with Kosha Mangsho which is a favourite combo among most of the Bengalees. Also, it can be served with niramish Paneer or Alur Dom and many of us offering this combo to the Gods as "Bhog".
