"I seem to remember writing Mother Nature’s Son at my dad’s house in Liverpool. I often used to do that if I’d gone up to see him. Visiting my family I’d feel in a good mood, so it was often a good occasion to write songs." Paul also said the song took inspiration from Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy" : “I've always loved the song called 'Nature Boy'; 'There was a boy, a very strange and gentle boy... (sic).' He loves nature, and 'Mother Nature's Son' was inspired by that song. I'd always loved nature, and when Linda and I got together we discovered we had this deep love of nature in common." Paul rehearsed the track on June 11th 1968 (footage from these rehearsals being available right here :    • [Outdated] The Beatles - Blackbird Rehears...  ) and recorded the track on August 9th, a session reserved for Not Guilty and Mother Nature's Son. Paul stayed until around 2 am in the studio recording the track, choosing take 24 as the best. Paul and George Martin returned to the track on August 20th to record a brass arrangement, an idea proposed by John. Paul also double-tracked tiny bits of guitar and vocals, most notably towards the end. The percussion you hear is Paul tapping on a book, which Ken Scott miced up : "They never taught you how to get the best sound out of a book at EMI, but I carefully miced it as best I could."
