At the Timundiya fair held at the Nrisimha temple complex in Joshimath, when the deity's priest started dancing and eating goat, rice, and jaggery, the devotees were astonished to see him eating so much food. Everyone bowed down before the priest and began making wishes. This miracle of the priest was witnessed by not only local but also foreign devotees. To ensure a smooth pilgrimage to Shri Badrinath Dham, the Timundiya Fair is held every year on Tuesday or Saturday before the opening of the Badrinath shrine. On Saturday, during the fair, the priest of Timundiya roamed around, eating goat, rice, jaggery, and drinking water. Timundiya is considered a hero of Navdurga. Held under the auspices of the Dev Pujai Committee, this fair was witnessed by hundreds of local devotees as well as foreign guests. As part of the ceremony, the priests of Navdurga, Chandika, Bhuvaneshwari, Timundiya, and Dani Devta were brought to the Narsingh Temple courtyard with pomp and show. The mother's power was brought out from the sanctum sanctorum of Navdurga. All the gods and goddesses descended on their priests and danced, holding the people, the symbol of the mother's power. During this time, the ferocious form of Timundiya Veer was seen. The Timundiya warrior danced throughout the courtyard in a miraculous, amazing, and unbelievable manner, consuming a goat, 40 kilograms of rice, eight kilograms of jaggery, and two pots of water. People were stunned by the feat of the Timundiya warrior. After the devotees prayed for his blessings, the Timundiya warrior calmed down and blessed the pilgrims with a prosperous pilgrimage. This is the belief Timundiya warrior is believed to have three heads. He studied the Vedas with one head, observed directions with the second, and ate meat with the third. According to local belief, Timundiya was a terror in the forests of Hyuna village in the Joshimath development block. He devoured people daily. People were in great fear of Timundiya. Mother Goddess Navdurga was on her Devyatra. During the pilgrimage, no one came to welcome the goddess. Then the goddess realized that people were not coming to see her because of the fear of Timundiya. It was also discovered that Timundiya required human sacrifices every day. When the Mother Goddess forbade people from going near Timundiya, Timundiya became angry and threatened the village. A fierce battle ensued between Mother Navdurga and Timundiya. Only when Mother Navdurga cut off Timundiya's two heads did Timundiya surrender to the Mother Goddess. The Mother Goddess was pleased with Timundiya's bravery and took him with her, making him her warrior. The Mother Goddess then instructed Timundiya that he would not eat humans. A goat would be sacrificed to him once a year. Badrinath's religious head, Bhuvan Chandra Uniyal, says that Timundiya Veer is mentioned in the Devi Bhagwat Katha. ..............Thank you.................
