Former Bengals player in court on domestic violence charge

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A former Bengals player appeared in court Monday, on a charge of domestic violence. A judge granted a protection order against Artrell Hawkins, Junior on behalf of his wife.Hawkins father-in-law called police to a home in Peak Driver in Springdale over the weekend. Carrie Hawkins says Artrell busted down the basement door of her home, slashed the tires on her car and threatened to hurt her and their children. Her father also says the couple is separating. Hawkins played college football at UC. He played for the Bengals from 1998 to 2003 and retired from the NFL before the 2008 season.Hawkins wife says she's okay with him seeing their children, but the judge says a third party has to be present. According to the jail website, Hawkins has posted bond.
