A rapid outpouring of research over the last ten years has renewed interest in MDMA as a tool to assist psychotherapy. MDMA-assisted psychotherapy has shown benefits in treating PTSD, anxiety associated with a terminal illness, and social anxiety in autistic adults. This event will help you understand how MDMA works and how it may help with psychotherapy. You might already be experimenting with "ecstasy" or "molly", two names for street drugs which sometimes contain MDMA. MDMA and ecstasy are not the same thing, and the latter has increased risks of harm. You will learn about how people outside of research studies use ecstasy, physical and psychological risks associated with use, and other ethical concerns. Dr. Peter H Addy earned a PhD in clinical psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. He conducted research with psychedelics, including MDMA, at Yale School of Medicine, and is now a psychotherapist in private practice in Portland and Vancouver.
