The long awaited report, commissioned in response to the“deflategate” controversy, investigated allegations that New England Patriots personnel purposely deflated balls used in January’s AFC championship game, which saw them defeat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7. The report says New England Patriots locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski released air from 11 of 12 game balls with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady aware of the deflation. No other Patriots personnel, including Coach Bill Belichick, are believed to have been aware of the deflated footballs. A regulation NFL football has to be inflated between 12.5 to 13.5 pounds per inch. 11 footballs tested during the AFC championship game in January, were found to be significantly underinflated. Deflated balls are easier to throw, catch, and grip than standard regulation footballs.
