West Sees Afghan Election as Victory for Democracy

Western powers hailed Thursday's elections in Afghanistan as a victory for democracy. Despite reports of low turnout due to the threat of Taliban violence, Afghan officials say 40 to 50 percent of the country's 15 million registered voters took part. Turnout was smaller than Afghanistan's first presidential election in 2004, but Western leaders expressed admiration for the Afghans who turned out. VOA's Mil Arcega has more.
