When we execute a gyaku-tsuki In Kihon training, our goal is to finish with our hips square to the front. Instructors will focus on the detail of this. As a consequence, during kumite drills, instructors tend to have the same focus. Whats far, far better however is to have your students work on ALWAYS punching BEYOND square. In other words, if they are executing a gyaku tsuki in a fighting stance, their reverse hip and shoulder should go beyond square. This very short video explains why this is the case.
