Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine uploaded a video of how its special troops stationed at Kabul’s international airport walked out of the perimeter of the Kabul airport risking their lives to pick up and evacuate Afghani civilians who were due for evacuation. In particular, one rescue operation took place on August 27, few hours after the terrorist attack at the gates of the airport. After the attack, American troops announced that they would allow entrance to the airport only to foreigners and not to Afghans with visas. Ukrainian soldiers came to the city to escort to the airport two vans with Afghani interpreters who cooperated with Canadian troops. Evacuated Afghans later said that they were shocked that Ukrainian soldiers came for them risking their lives, because troops of other countries refused to do so, since the area around the airport was already controlled by Taliban.
