In this video, UNRISD External Coordinator, Nitya Rao presents an overview of the UNRISD research project "When and Why Do States Respond to Women's Claims? Understanding Gender-Egalitarian Policy Change in Asia". The study compares how women's movements influence policy change in China, India and Indonesia. This research focuses on the processes of negotiation and contestation behind policy change: how do women's rights enter in the policy agenda? How do women's movements negotiate their demands with the state? How do they challenge the resistance to change? Researchers analyze policy change on violence against women, domestic workers' labour rights, unpaid care work and women's land rights. The interview was structured around the following issues: 0:18 - Object of study of the project 0:42 - Hypotheses 2:01 - Specific issues studied 2:38 - Countries studied 3:03 - Emerging findings 3:53 - Structural conditions for policy change 4:41 - Strategies used by women's movements 5:49 - Impact of the project For more information about the project, please visit http://www.unrisd.org/gender-claims
