Israeli Vice Premier, Shimon Peres, sitting in meeting with a delegation of US congressmen 30. SOUNDBITE (English) Shimon Peres, Israeli Vice Premier: "We understand we don't want to fight endlessly or clearly unnecessarily. If there is a way out (ahead) for a cease-fire if it will not be a cease-fire from a moment to moment, but a sustainable one, the United Nation's resolutions will be honoured, mainly the southern part of Lebanon will be manned by the Lebanese army not by the Hezbollah, coupled with foreign force because the Lebanese army is not strong enough and the two soldiers (Israeli) will be released, we are ready to stop because Lebanon is not our enemy." 31. Wide of Peres sitting in meeting STORYLINE: Israeli troops, backed by tanks and armoured vehicles, reportedly took the key south Lebanon town of Marjayoun early on Thursday just hours before a senior Israeli official announced that the military would hold off expanding its ground offensive to give diplomacy a chance. Reporters in Metulla, an Israeli border town from where the soldiers moved into south Lebanon, counted at least five Israeli soldiers injured in the fighting on Thursday. One reportedly died of his injuries. The Israeli military have not confirmed the report. The injured soldiers were taken front the battlefront to a location near Metulla, inside Israel, where paramedics provided medical care before transporting the injured by helicopter to Rambam hospital in Haifa. Hezbollah's Al-Manar television said militants attacked advancing Israeli troops in the Khiam plain, about halfway to Marjayoun, which lies about 8 kilometres (65 miles) from Israel.
