Revealed in Madinah, it consists of 286 verses and addresses a variety of important themes such as the oneness of Allah, the importance of the Qur'an, rules of fasting, prayer, charity, marriage, business ethics, and social justice. It also recounts the stories of past prophets, especially the experiences of the Children of Israel, to serve as lessons for believers. Among its verses is Ayat al-Kursi (Verse 255), one of the most powerful and revered verses in the Qur'an, which offers immense spiritual protection and is described in Hadith as a verse over which Shaytan flees when recited. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ strongly emphasized the significance of Surah Al-Baqarah. He said: "Do not turn your homes into graves. Indeed, Shaytan does not enter the house where Surah Al-Baqarah is recited." (Sahih Muslim) In another Hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the magicians cannot confront it." (Sahih Muslim) The last two verses of this chapter (verses 285–286) are especially profound. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him." (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim) — meaning they offer protection, reward, and relief from harm. Surah Al-Baqarah is not just a chapter of rulings but a living guidance filled with light, protection, and blessings.
