Clean up continues after the eruption

(4 May 2015) Chile's Calbuco volcano was showing a significant increase in seismic activity, similar to that which preceded last week's eruption, authorities said on Monday. The National Mining and Geology Service (Sernageomin) said on Monday that it couldn't rule out a new eruption in the short term, and recommended maintaining a 20 kilometre (12.5 mile) exclusion zone around the volcano. Meanwhile, soldiers in Ensenada continued cleaning up ash from the last eruption, using spades and wheelbarrows to shift the thick piles of ash that have settled along roads and on people's homes. Some rural areas are still blanketed in grey, with only the tallest grasses poking through. Tour boats remained moored in the river as tourists stayed away from the area. Calbuco has erupted three times since April 22, spewing out hundreds of thousands of tonnes of ash and prompting the evacuation of 6,500 local residents.
