Lift Depression With These 4 Prescriptions—Without Pills

[From Dr. Heitler] In this preview of a TEDx talk I'll be giving in August of 2016 at TEDx Wilmington, I offer new perspectives on causes and cures for depression. [See more information about this video below]. You can use the four prescriptions that I demonstrate, including the visualization strategy, on your own, with the help of a friend or family member, or with the aid of a therapist. For a further video example of the 3 P's Antidepressant Visualization, see prescriptionswithoutpills.com. For a detailed list of the questions that guide the visualization, see my newest book—Prescriptions Without Pills: For Relief from Depression, Anger, Anxiety and More: https://www.amazon.com/susanheitler Get Dr. Heitler's FREE Guide, 10 Tips for Feeling Good and Maintaining Well-Being: https://dr-h.ck.page/free Are you a mental health professional interested in continuing education? When I suggest that you do not take an antidepressant, I mean to say that it's best not to take an antidepressant as a first mode of treatment for depression. DO see a medical professional about taking an antidepressant medication if these techniques and/or psychotherapy are not working for you. Be sure also to ask your doctor to rule out physical causes (for instance, a thyroid problem) for your down emotional state. If you do take an antidepressant and it proves helpful, once you have felt better for several months, work with your prescribing physician to gradually wean off the pills. Long duration (e.g., years) of taking antidepressant medication can increase the likelihood of side effects such as brain zapping or a drug-removal depression when you cease using them. Lastly, if you do take an antidepressant medication, work simultaneously with the prescriptions in this video and/or a psychologist, counselor or other psychotherapist. Studies have shown that the combination of psychotherapy and medication is more effective than medication alone.
