Wide shot of police negotiating with locals STORYLINE: An angry crowd on the outskirts of Mexico City briefly took a hostage and clashed with police on Wednesday evening, officials said. The police were trying to quell the disturbance over a local land dispute when the protest turned violent. Demonstrators threw rocks and spat at police. More than a dozen people were injured, including three police officers. Emergency officials said one officer was shot, while two others suffered cuts and bruises. Angered by the recent arrests of their followers, the protesters then took a hostage and demanded the release of several people. But the hostage was released a short time later, even though no suspects were released from custody. Earlier this week, protesters burned a police truck and two shacks used to house provisions for officials.
