Advent Week 4: Love — The Incarnation On the fourth Sunday of Advent, we reflect on Love revealed through the Incarnation—God personally coming into the world in Jesus Christ. Before love is seen at the cross, it is first revealed in God-with-us. This sermon explores how God loved the world not only by forgiving sin, but by entering human life. Drawing from John 3, we see that “God so loved the world” by giving His Son—meaning the incarnation itself is a saving act that brings life and removes condemnation for those who believe. From Hebrews 10, we learn that Christ came into the world in obedience, not merely to offer sacrifice. God is ultimately pleased not with ritual offerings, but with faithful obedience. Jesus took on a body to do the will of the Father, so that humanity might be restored into true communion with God. Finally, the sermon centers on the heart of Christmas: Jesus is Immanuel—God with us. He saves us from our sins because God has drawn near, uniting Himself to humanity. The incarnation is God’s profound act of love, making communion with Him possible and forming us into His people.
