In this video, I cover what I think are the top 5 survival crops. Yes, times are hard and we all see the signs that things could get a lot harder. Many people are growing food for the first time. These people are growing a variety of foods, but cannot easily put up the food they are growing for long term storage without special preparation and/or knowledge. Most new gardeners are simply freezing their surplus harvest. That is great, but what if the electricity goes out and you lose all of that food you worked so hard to grow the previous season? The question this video answers is what are the tops crops that we should be growing to sustain our families for the times ahead? I chose the top 5 by three criteria: 1. Easy to grow - That means that this crop should not require any special fertilizers, care, or climate. That a novice gardener should be able to grow them. 2. Easy to store - That means that after harvest, all of these crops can be stored for a long time as is. Of course any of these crops can be canned, dehydrated, and so on, but these crops can be store just fine without any specific skills after harvest. 3. Easy to prepare - All of these foods could be eaten raw if you had to, but would be better if cooked. And of course, the meal preparation for these foods is simple. I hope you watch the whole video, but if you are looking for the answer to the question, the top 5 are: potatoes/sweet potatoes, beans, onions/garlic, winter squash (butternut is my personal favorite), and jerusalem artichokes. Here are the videos I referenced in this video. jerusalem artichokes - • Growing Jerusalem Artichokes in a raised bed saving beans - • Seed saving beans is very simple planting potatoes - • Now we can plant our potatoes Please like, share, and subscribe to help our channel grow.
