John has been studying martial arts since 1984. Along with his 7th degree Black Belt in Fuji Ryu Ju Jutsu, he is also one of the few active instructors in New York State who is certified in Chanbara (Goshindo) under Master Dana Abbott. Goshindo is a weapons art (long & short sword, Nito (two swords), knife, Naginata, Yari, and Staff (safety padded) which is closely related to Iaido, Kendo and Kenjutsu. John has also won numerous 1st place awards in multiple weapons fighting divisions. He also holds the rank of Shodan in Sosiushitsu Ryu Ju Jutsu. A Koryu (classical) Samurai Japanese Ju Jutsu art dating back to 1650. He also holds a 1st Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do from the New York Institute of Martial Arts. Sensei John has been studying with Master Tony Bottan since 1991. Acknowledging that all law enforcement personnel come in different shapes, sizes, abilities, and experiences John makes certain every officer has a thorough understanding of what is taught and gains the confidence to perform to their fullest potential regardless of their size, ability and/or experience.
