Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Black Mustang Defense! The Black Mustang Defense starts off with the following moves: 1. Nf3 Nc6 The Black Mustang Defense is a response against the Reti Opening (Also called the Zukertort Variation) in which we look to play aggressively with the black pieces. There are many options against the Reti Opening including the Sicilian Invitation, Queen's Gambit Invitation, Pirc Invitation, Dutch Variation, Kingside Fianchetto Variation, Queenside Fianchetto Variation, along with many other chess opening variations for black. However, none of these stop white from playing the King's Indian Attack. All of these chess openings are good, but easily allow white enter their King's Indian Attack chess opening system, and much of the time not feeling the pressure. How can we try to beat the King's Indian Attack starting at move one? One fun option is the Ross Gambit (also considered the Walrus Variation) but it is far from a top tier chess opening as it simply hands white a pawn. However, in today's video we cover the Black Mustang Defense which is one of the most underrated chess openings for black against the Reti Opening/Zukertort Variation. The Black Mustang Defense has good chess opening tricks, chess opening strategy, chess opening theory, chess opening traps, chess opening principles, and chess opening ideas. White usually goes with the Reti Opening instead of the King's Fianchetto Opening because they do not want to allow e5. However, with the Black Mustang Defense we try to do this by move 2! This doesn't stop white from playing the King's Indian Attack, but it gives black a very strong and aggressive setup which provide some fun chess. The chess opening theory shared in this video is very similar to the 150 Attack against the Pirc Defense, but with reversed colors. The Black Mustang Defense is also considered to be a transitional chess opening, meaning that it can transpose into other chess openings. These include the Black Mustang Defense player being prepared for the Queen's Gambit, English Opening, and e4. My recommendation for these is the Chigorin Defense, Four Knights Variation, and e5.
