If you’re at a friends house or a junkyard and you don’t have compressed air or electricity, but you want to know the condition of the cylinder head valves, I’ve come up with a way of getting in the ballpark to know the condition of the valves. With the valve cover off you can look to see you which cylinder has the cam lobe‘s completely up ensuring that the valves are sealed or at least a sealed as they Canby. Then you can insert a hose into the spark plug hole and blow air into the cylinder manually. If you’re able to blow on restricted air into the cylinder you know there’s a big problem. If you have a leak down to gauge the schedule give you a percentage of how much leak down there actually is. After working with a leak down gauge and then blowing into the cylinder you will start to feel how Big of a leak there is. So once you know how it feels with the gauge you can get an estimate without the gauge. So it’s a simple test that you can do and get an idea on how good or bad the valves are ceiling.
