Gov. Phil Murphy says public schools will have the option to start the school year remotely. That’s if they can’t meet health and safety standards for in-person instruction. Any student who chooses to continue remote learning must be accommodated. The blended learning option is a result of ongoing feedback from educators and parents, according to Murphy. It isn’t entirely unexpected given the fluctuation in coronavirus cases. Wednesday the health department reported 484 new positive tests. The statewide total is now 185,938. That’s with nine new deaths and 15,885 confirmed and probable fatalities. A positive sign is that the rate of transmission remains below 1.0.
