An investigation is underway after several individuals tried to break into an ATM at Huntington Bank in a Giant Eagle Parking lot in Springfield Township. Police say the incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when eyewitnesses saw three masked men wearing jumpsuits trying to break into the ATM. The group of individuals reportedly attached a chain from a 2000 Ford F350 pick-up truck to the machine, which forcefully pulled open the ATM, causing damage "Onlookers, sensing the criminal activity, immediately notified the police. This rapid communication allowed officers to reach the scene while the crime was in progress. As the officers intervened, the suspects tried to escape, leaving the pick-up truck, which was later identified as a vehicle stolen from Stark County. After a short chase, officers managed to apprehend one of the thieves," said Springfield Township police officials in a press release.
