Tight of suspect being arrested 3.SOUNDBITE (English) Deputy Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriff's Office: "Around 9 p.m. this evening, Harris County Sheriffs Office responded to a call for a welfare check at a residence in the 2100 block of Falling Oaks. On the arrival of deputies there at the house, entry was tried to make to see if anyone would come to the door. After repeated times to get someone to come to the door, some more information was obtain that a male was in the home that had a warrant for an aggravated assault on a family member. At that time, the Sgt. on scene decided to call for an HROU, which is a high risk operations unit to run the warrant and make entry into the home for the welfare check being that the male had a history of family violence." 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Deputy Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriff's Office: "Deputies had surrounded the house and were checking through the windows and at that point the body of a young juvenile was seen through a window. At that point, it was decided to make entry into the home. A sgt. from our patrol division along with three other deputies made entry into the house and at that point the 49-year-old black male subject began to shoot a weapon inside the house." 6. When they arrived with members of the hostage negotiations team arrived, they began to have an open line of communications with the suspect. One of our negotiators was was able to have him come out of the house. He was taken into custody. Upon entering the home, the bodies of eight victims were found inside the residence. Various of scene STORYLINE: Texas authorities say five children and three adults have been found dead inside a Houston-area home following the arrest of a man who exchanged gunfire with police. Harris County Sheriff spokesman Thomas Gilliland tells KHOU-TV that deputies were called to a home in the 2200 block of Falling Oaks Road about 9 p.m. Saturday. He says deputies subsequently received information indicating that a man inside the home was wanted on an aggravated assault warrant. Gilliland says while waiting for a High Risk Operations Unit, deputies spotted the body of a juvenile through a window. Four deputies forced themselves inside, prompting the 49-year-old suspect to begin shooting. Deputies pulled back, and the man surrendered about an hour later. The relationship between the suspect and victims wasn't immediately known.
