Ron DeSantis revealed Friday that his sweeping claims about San Francisco, on display in a campaign ad that he released earlier this week, came after spending just 20 minutes in the city. The Republican presidential candidate was fundraising in the Bay Area earlier this week, and after rubbing shoulders with wealthy donors in Sacramento and Woodside, he popped over to San Francisco to shoot a short campaign ad. In that ad, he can be seen standing at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and Hyde Street, with a big pile of trash in the background. “We came in here, and we saw people defecating on the street. We saw people using heroin. We saw people smoking crack cocaine,” DeSantis says in the ad. “And you look around, the city is not vibrant anymore. It’s really collapsed because of leftist policies, and these policies have caused people to flee this area.
