Among new details in the ongoing investigation, officials have discovered the couple’s personal lives included travel within the Middle East, communication with people suspected of ties to terrorism and an arsenal of weapons at their home, CNN reported. San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook traveled to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage in 2013, where he met his partner and accomplice Tashfeen Malik, a Pakistani national, CNN reported. The couple came to the U.S. and married. Additionally, authorities say Farook had been in contact with people linked to terrorism over the phone and through social media. At the scene of the shooting, officials recovered a remote-controlled car with three pipe bombs, and from the SUV they recovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition. At the couple’s home, 12 pipe bombs and bomb-making equipment were found, CNN reported. When the massacre began, Farook and Tashfeen were dressed in tactical gear, equipped with legally purchased assault rifles and handguns, and several ammunition magazines. Police suspect there was some degree of planning involved in the attack and are investigating if the couple had been radicalized. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
