Brighton curse struck yet again as young prop Beno Obano was ruled out for a year with a shocking leg injury. The Bath man, 23, suffered multiple ligament and hamstring tendon damage in England's training camp last week. The injury is so bad he may not be seen for 12 months. Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder said: 'Beno went for a scan this week and after consulting with the specialist, will undergo surgery to help repair his injury. This will then be followed by a lengthy spell of rehabilitation.'We are all feeling Beno's disappointment - it's been a breakthrough season for him. It's upsetting to see that he will miss this chance to show his class at an international level, especially on the back of picking up two end of season Club awards. However I am sure he will be back in the frame in the future.'We know Beno will do everything he can to get back on the pitch and in the blue, black and white as soon as he can. 'Whilst this type of injury is complex and can lead to a 12 month lay-off, we are investing in our medical team over the off-season and we are focused on getting Beno back as soon as possible.'In light of Beno's injury, we are looking for appropriate cover ahead of starting the 18/19 campaign.' Obano was not in Eddie Jones' touring squad for the trip to South Africa but was likely to play a part against the Barbarians this Sunday before this horrific blow.England have history of suffering nasty injuries on the south coast. Back in 2016 Sam Jones was broken by a Brighton judo session - shattering his leg and destroying the ligaments in his ankle which meant he was forced to retire this year without playing another game. Reports later said he was taken to hospital in a taxi.In that year Jack Nowell tore his thigh muscle, and Anthony Watson broke his jaw.In 2017 Jonny May pulled a hamstring in an autumn training camp in Portugal and Marcus Smith hurt his foot kicking the ground instead of the ball. And this year Jack Nowell (ankle) and Sam Underhill (toe) suffered injuries during Six Nations training.
