What and When to Eat Before a Workout An effective pre-workout meal should ideally be consumed one hour before exercising. It should include a balanced combination of carbohydrates and protein to sustain energy levels and optimize performance. Recommended pre-workout meals include: 1) Oats with half a scoop of whey protein, along with dry fruits or seeds such as sunflower and pumpkin seeds 2) Chicken and rice for those with sufficient time before their workout 3) For those with limited time (20–30 minutes), options such as whey protein with a banana, or yogurt with dry fruits, are more suitable. 4) Avoid high-fiber foods in close proximity to exercise as they may hinder digestion and affect performance. What and When to Eat After a Workout The post-workout meal should ideally be consumed immediately after exercise or within a window of 30 to 90 minutes. The goal is to replenish glycogen stores, rebuild muscle tissues, and support recovery.
